Vaughan rues slow play

England Test captain Michael Vaughan has admitted that his side have struggled to maintain good over-rates on several occasions in recent times.

Vaughan was speaking after his one-day international counterpart Paul Collingwood was handed a four-match suspension for slow play in the fourth ODI against New Zealand.

He told Sky Sports: "We have pushed the time limit on a few occasions over the last few years and that is something we are going to have to get a little bit better at.

"We are now missing Paul in a huge game on Saturday. It is a must-win game for the team to level the series and Colly is the one player you don't want to have out of your side because he is a scrapper.

"He offers everything with the bat and ball and, obviously, in the field he will be hugely missed."

Meanwhile, Collingwood, admitted that he is desperately disappointed to be facing time on the sidelines.

He added: "Obviously I'm disappointed to be missing England's next four limited-overs matches, but as a team we are aware of the rules and regulations in place and it's my responsibility to bear the penalties for such a breach.

"Clearly we'll look to address the problem so that it doesn't happen again.

"The England captaincy means the world to me and already I'm looking forward to leading the one-day team against South Africa in August."
