Essex scupper Gough finale

Yorkshire captain Darren Gough admitted to being hugely disappointed at missing out on a Lord's final to his career, as the Tykes were beaten in the semi-finals of the Friends Provident Trophy.

Essex emerged as winners by 87 runs at Chelmsford, with Gough having few complaints about the outcome.

He told Sky Sports: "We've done well to get this far, but we didn't do ourselves justice.

"I thought we bowled beautifully for 36 overs, but then Graham Napier struck it well. We could have probably bowled a little better in the final ten overs.

"I then thought we left ourselves with too much to do against Danish Kaneria. We should have been more assertive against their medium-pacers.

"When you need eight-and-a-half an over from Kaneria it is always going to be hard work. There is no way you are taking him for eight-and-a-half on a pitch like that."
