Colly sorry over incident

England captain Paul Collingwood has apologised to New Zealand following the controversial run out which overshadowed the fourth one-day international.

The Black Caps secured a dramatic one-wicket victory at The Oval, but the game was marred by a controversial incident which angered the tourists.

Grant Elliott was given run out after being knocked to the ground following a collision with England seamer Ryan Sidebottom.

Collingwood was asked by the umpire if he wanted the run out to stand and his decision prompted anger from the opposition players.

"The umpires said 'are you upholding the appeal?' and in hindsight maybe I made the wrong decision," admitted Collingwood.

"I had to make a split-second decision and probably made the wrong one so my apologies go out to New Zealand.

"We've always had a good relationship with New Zealand and we don't want it affected by this."
